The McLane Highlanders will face off against the Washington Union Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
McLane will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Dos Palos, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Highlanders walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Broncos on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Highlanders.
Meanwhile, Washington Union gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Torres as they made off with a 14-6 win.
Audrina Marquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Washington Union got a massive performance out of Elizabeth Hernandez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. What's more, Hernandez posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. Zoe Freitas was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Washington Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Torres only posted an OBP of .375.
Washington Union now has a winning record of 2-1. As for McLane, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Everything went McLane's way against Washington Union when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as McLane made off with a 13-3 win. Do the Highlanders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
