The Crestview Cougars will challenge the Shelby Whippets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Crestview had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Mapleton put an end to it on Wednesday. The Cougars came up short against the Mounties, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Shelby entered their tilt with Pleasant on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Whippets, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Jordyn Thauvette made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Thauvette was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Shelby got a massive performance out of Braylee Sturts, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases Sturts has posted since back in March of 2025. Kendall Bowman was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Shelby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in nine consecutive contests.
Shelby's win bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Crestview, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Crestview came out on top in a nail-biter against Shelby in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Whippets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
