Baseball Recap: Estero Gets the Win

After losing to Palmetto Ridge the last time they met, Estero decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Estero Wildcats came out on top against the Palmetto Ridge Bears by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday.

Evan Goeller and Drue Overmyer made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Goeller pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Overmyer tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Goeller gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Goeller scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Overmyer got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Overmyer has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Landon Brown was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marcus Whysong-Garner, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Estero always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmetto Ridge only posted an OBP of .469.

Estero's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Palmetto Ridge, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Estero will venture away from home to take on North Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Fort Myers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Estero surely won't give up without a fight. As for Palmetto Ridge, they are taking a road trip to square off against Golden Gate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Golden Gate has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something Palmetto Ridge will no doubt try to take advantage of.
