Pahrump Valley and Moapa Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Trojans will square off against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pahrump Valley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They didn't even let Canyon Springs on the board, marking the Trojans' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 14 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ryleigh Denton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Gray, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Pahrump Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Moapa Valley had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 win over the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 8th.
Alyssa Evans was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Shelby Cornwall was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Moapa Valley's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Pahrump Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-8.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pahrump Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Moapa Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .641. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pahrump Valley beat Moapa Valley 13-10 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
