Simsbury and Newington are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but not for long. The Trojans will face off against the Nor'easters at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Simsbury made easy work of South Windsor and carried off a 3-0 win. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The win didn't come easy: South Windsor scored at least 20 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Newington had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Nor'easters have posted since April 7th.
Newington had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-11.
Simsbury better focus on containing Austin Miller and Adam Redman as the pair were huge in Newington's win. Miller had 13 digs and one assist, while Redman had eight digs. Those 13 digs gave Miller a new career-high.
Newington pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Simsbury, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Everything went Simsbury's way against Newington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Simsbury made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
