The Burns Broncs will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully Burns focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Burns was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 37-31 to Pine Bluffs.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jordan Griess, who scored eight points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Brooke Hansen, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Lingle-Fort Laramie had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.2 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Saturday. They really took it to Guernsey-Sunrise for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-21 victory at home. Lingle-Fort Laramie has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Lingle-Fort Laramie relied on the efforts of Jordynn Speckner, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine steals, and Natalie Speckner, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Speckner hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Madison Hatch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Burns' loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Lingle-Fort Laramie, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Burns have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lingle-Fort Laramie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Burns suffered a grim 59-36 defeat to Lingle-Fort Laramie in their previous matchup back in January. Will Burns have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
