After losing to the Chelsea Academy Knights the last time they met, the Oakcrest Chargers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Oakcrest snuck past Chelsea Academy with a 46-40 victory on Wednesday.
Mary Mehan was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. Mehan is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kate Newsome, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cici Wingate, who scored 11 points. Miriam Pilon was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Oakcrest now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Chelsea Academy, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2.
Oakcrest will take on Trinity Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Trinity Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oakcrest in Virginia (Trinity Christian is ranked 115th, while Oakcrest is ranked 242nd). As for Chelsea Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Christ Chapel Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Christ Chapel Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.9 points per game.
