The St. Monica Mariners will challenge the Rio Hondo Prep Kares at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
St. Monica is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Knight 10-8. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mariners as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bella Urbina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sanai Lambert, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katrina Olmedo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Southlands Christian on Thursday.
ALLIE SCOTT made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. SCOTT was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, BELLA FAIRLEY was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Rio Hondo Prep is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for St. Monica, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
