The Centennial Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Roswell Coyotes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centennial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Centennial fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Carlsbad on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavemen/Cavegirls by a score of 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Isreal Molina put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Gilberto Torres made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Mateo Marquez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Roswell sidestepped Lovington for an 8-7 win.
Davian Dominguez and Elias Lujan did most of the damage at the plate: Dominguez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Lujan scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Roswell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lovington struck out eight times.
Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Roswell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Roswell struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
