An exciting East v. West battle is about to be fought. The Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morristown-Hamblen West will be strutting in after a victory while Morristown-Hamblen East will be coming in after a defeat.
Morristown-Hamblen West took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out David Crockett 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since April 1, 2024.
Briony Bunsic made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Bunsic was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Bunsic wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kara Dyke, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Adyson Collins, who scored a run.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Morristown-Hamblen East's offense. They lost 8-0 to Cocke County on Monday. The Hurricanes have struggled against the Fighting Cocks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Morristown-Hamblen West's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morristown-Hamblen West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Morristown-Hamblen East struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
