Ascension Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Slaughter Community Charter on Wednesday. The Ascension Catholic Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Slaughter Community Charter Knights a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Gauthe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Delatte, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hayden Theriot, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Ascension Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Slaughter Community Charter only posted a batting average of .062.

The victory (which was Ascension Catholic's third in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Slaughter Community Charter, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-3.

Coming up, Ascension Catholic will be taking part in a tournament against St. Joseph's Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Ascension Catholic is facing St. Joseph's Academy at the right time seeing as St. Joseph's Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Slaughter Community Charter, they are taking a road trip to square off against Central Private at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
