Basketball Recap: Meade Piles Up the Points Against Northeast

A well-balanced attack led Meade over Northeast in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Meade Mustangs blew the Northeast Eagles out of the water with a 78-43 final score. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 23 points or more this season.

Meade's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ashton Turman led the charge by going 10 of 18 on his way to 24 points and six boards. That's the most points Turman has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Keon Scott, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.

Meade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 19 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meade pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for Northeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Meade will face off against Chesapeake Science Point at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meade is facing Chesapeake Science Point at the right time seeing as Chesapeake Science Point is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Northeast, they will challenge North County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Northeast likes a good challenge.
