Central East is 9-1 against Clovis since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bengals will face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Central East sitting on ten straight wins and Clovis on three.
Central East is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Buchanan with a sharp 53-31 victory. The score was close at halftime, but the Bengals pulled away in the second half with 27 points.

Jelani Dippel was his usual excellent self, throwing for 391 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 15.6 yards per attempt. His passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 370 passing yards. A healthy portion of Dippel's aerial production (88 yards to be exact) went to Titus Thomas, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Central East didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Buchanan to a completion percentage of just 47.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Brandon Smith and Xavior Jones, who each logged two passes deflected. Central East wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60%.
Central East didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jontae Della, Smith, and Chris Perry picked up one apiece. Smith got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clovis humbled Clovis West with a 48-7 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 25 points or more this season.
Clovis' win came from a few key players Central East will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was James Curoso, who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of TDs, and also picked up 47 receiving yards and two scores. Another player making a difference was Deagan Rose, who threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes.
Central East's record now sits at 11-1. As for Clovis, their record is now 10-2.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dippel and Rose. Dippel just won't slow down this season and has thrown 45 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 312.8 passing yards per game. Rose has been a dominant force too and has thrown 35 touchdowns (and and only 3 picks) while averaging 261.8 passing yards per game.
Central East was able to grind out a solid win over Clovis in their previous matchup back in October, winning 61-49. Will the Bengals repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
