Leigha Race made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Morningside Academy got a massive performance out of Gabbriella Oliver, who scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Oliver also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Meghan Enyart, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Morningside Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only posted an OBP of .414.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Berean Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 23-13 margin over Highlands Christian on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Britton, who scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Lillian Severson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Berean Christian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.0 runs over those games. As for Morningside Academy, their record now sits at 7-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morningside Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .658. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .620. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morningside Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Berean Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 17-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morningside Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
