The Alexander Cougars came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 57-49 win over Newnan. Given Alexander's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Newnan is ranked 161st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jermaine Freeman was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six steals. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Gregory Dunson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Alexander's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Newnan, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-11.
Alexander will head out on the road to face off against Douglas County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newnan, they will be playing at home against New Manchester at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
