The Homestead Broncos will play host again and welcome the Ferguson Falcons, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Homestead has not done well against South Dade recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Homestead took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 60-24 victory over South Dade. Given Homestead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while South Dade is ranked 364th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Caitylyn Gibson, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Gibson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nefertari Soloman, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Ferguson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coral Gables 47-15 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Ferguson has posted yet this season.
Homestead pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Ferguson, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Everything went Homestead's way against Ferguson when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Homestead made off with a 51-27 win. Does Homestead have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ferguson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
