It was a good run, but the Fossil Ridge SaberCats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 46-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Broomfield. Fossil Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Broomfield apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Fossil Ridge saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Gianna Leone was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Fossil Ridge struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Broomfield racked up 13 assists.
Broomfield was led to victory by Sydney Deem and Olivia Kim. Deem scored five points along with ten rebounds and nine blocks, while Kim scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Kim hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Gilpatrick, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Fossil Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Broomfield, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Fossil Ridge will head out on the road to take on Monarch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Monarch is ranked 69th, while Fossil Ridge is ranked 73rd). Broomfield won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Poudre at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Poudre focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday.
