Even though the Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles scored an imposing 65 points on Wednesday, the Bosco Tech Tigers still came out on top. Bosco Tech took down Verbum Dei Jesuit 79-65. Given Bosco Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Verbum Dei Jesuit is ranked 550th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bosco Tech was led to victory by Ryan Osborne and Jaden Erami. Osborne scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Erami scored 33 points along with six rebounds. Erami is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Darius Benitez, who scored 13 points along with three blocks.
Despite the defeat, Verbum Dei Jesuit had strong showings from Reese Whitman, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Ryan Figueroa, who scored 20 points. Whitman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Hillard, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Verbum Dei Jesuit struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bosco Tech racked up 17 assists.
Bosco Tech has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Bosco Tech will be playing in front of their home fans against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they will head out on the road to face off against Mary Star of the Sea at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mary Star of the Sea will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
