Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Empire's 13th in Last 15 Outings

After only two runs in their last contest, Empire made sure to put some runs up on the board against Safford on Saturday. The Ravens put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Ravens, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Darby Smalligan, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabrianna Brooks, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Empire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Safford only posted an OBP of .318.

Empire has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Safford, they now have a losing record of 15-16.

Looking ahead, Empire will be playing at home against Seton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Ravens 3.6, the Sentinels 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Safford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
