2A-2 Region IV District 16 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Ben Benavides and Ronnie Ocanas provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Hebbronville. The connection was good for 56 yards, the longest such play in 2A-2 Region IV District 16 this season.
Jacob Gonzalez of Banquete ran for the longest rushing play in the league this season against the Longhorns last week. Gonzalez ran for 76 yards on the play and finished with 191 on the day as his team defeated Hebbronville.
Skidmore-Tynan's dynamic duo of R.j. Estrada and Brandon East proved tough for Kaufer to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Estrada threw for 140 yards and one touchdown and East had 109 yards receiving. Nathan Magana helped Skidmore-Tynan's passing attack out by catching two balls for 31 yards.
Benavides provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Banquete topped Don Davis' team. He completed seven passes for 130 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 133 yards. Benavides' favorite target this week was Ocanas, who caught one pass for 56 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Benavides and Gonzalez Kevin Hermes' team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Benavides leads the league in passing with 576 yards, while Gonzalez has rushed for 678 yards this season. Santa Gertrudis Academy's Aaron Ramon leads the league in receiving yards with 376 on 20 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Refugio takes on Taft. The Bobcats are in first place, while the Greyhounds are in third place.
Refugio extended the longest winning streak in 2A-2 Region IV District 16 this week by beating Freer, 77-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
