Washington is a perfect 10-0 against Spring Mills since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Washington's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Spring Mills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Washington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Martinsburg with a sharp 17-0 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.
Zoe Kesterson and Mckenzie O'Hara were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kesterson struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, O'Hara struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kesterson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while O'Hara went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gabby Bibb and Chloe Constantino did most of the damage at the plate: Bibb went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Constantino went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Bibb continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Ella Ranck was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .732. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Spring Mills faced Jefferson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cardinals lost 9-1 to the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since April 2nd.
Alexis Wagner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Washington pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Spring Mills, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .426. However, it's not like Spring Mills struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Washington's way against Spring Mills in their previous matchup back in March, as Washington made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
