Westview has gone 8-2 against Lakeland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Lakers at 5:30 p.m. Westview has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Lakeland will come in with three straight wins.
On Saturday, Westview didn't have quite enough to beat Illiana Christian and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by just one run.
Meanwhile, Lakeland got the win against Woodlan on Saturday by a conclusive 9-1. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.
Dylan Bateman and Garrett Pieri made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Bateman pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Pieri tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Bateman went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI, while Pieri went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles Pieri has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lakeland let Carson Mickem and Brayden Holbrook run wild. Mickem got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Holbrook went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Mickem has posted since back in May of 2024. Keyan Arroyo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Lakeland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Lakeland's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Westview, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lakeland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Westview couldn't quite finish off Lakeland in their previous meeting last Thursday and fell 7-5. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
