The Jefferson Eagles will face off against the Turner Trojans on Thursday. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Jefferson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They beat Brodhead by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.
Natalie Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Audrina Schroeder was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hannah Werning, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, while Turner put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Edgerton. The Trojans put the hurt on the Crimson Tide with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Trojans have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddy Hoenig was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Jayla Jackson was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one double.
Turner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edgerton only posted an OBP of .125.
Turner's win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 20-8.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jefferson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Turner struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Turner in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
