Even though the Stargate School Eagles scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, The Academy Wildcats still came out on top. The Academy snuck past Stargate School with a 64-58 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given The Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Stargate School is ranked 110th).
It was another big night for Trey Boychuk, who scored 28 points along with seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of The Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Ian Lamar, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Connor Rusch, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Perkins, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
The Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Stargate School, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Academy will square off against Kent Denver at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Kent Denver's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Stargate School, they will head out on the road to square off against DSST: Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DSST: Cedar will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
