Basketball Game Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Currituck County Knights

First Flight is 8-2 against Currituck County since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The First Flight Nighthawks will challenge the Currituck County Knights at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

First Flight took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Manteo 85-39. The Nighthawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

First Flight's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Judah Carlyle, who posted 20 points, and Mason Dobie, who had 21 points. The contest was Dobie's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lex Jackson, who earned nine points.

Meanwhile, Currituck County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 63-56 to Camden County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (55), the Knights still had to take the loss.

First Flight pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.3 points per game. As for Currituck County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

First Flight took their win against Currituck County when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 53-32. Will First Flight repeat their success, or does Currituck County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
