Softball Recap: Bend Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Bend ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the West Albany Bulldogs 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lava Bears have posted since June 1, 2024.

Janelle Guiney made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MacKenzie Shaughnessy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lauren Glasser, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Bend's win bumped their record up to 3-6-1. As for West Albany, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Bend wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-9 victory against Caldera on the 15th. As for West Albany, they have also already played their next match, a 14-4 defeat against Sandy on the 9th.
