St. John is 1-6 against Burke since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The St. John's Islanders will head out on the road to square off against the Burke Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m.
St. John's suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 58-36 loss at the hands of Cross. St. John's has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, St. John's saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaniya Smith, who scored 14 points along with six assists and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Daeshia Buford, who scored ten points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Burke put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Charleston Math & Science with a sharp 57-34 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Burke has posted since November 25, 2023.
St. John's now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Burke, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
St. John's suffered a grim 55-35 defeat to Burke in their previous matchup on January 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Burke's Andrea Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 20 rebounds.
