St. Thomas More (Lafayette, La.) beat St. Martinville (La.) 52-7 after a solid game from
Nathan Thevenot, who rushed for four touchdowns.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Connor Broussard in the first quarter, the Cougars led 42-7 at the half.
St. Thomas More expanded its lead to 45 points entering the fourth quarter. STM scored two times in the third, including once on a rushing touchdown.
The Lafayette school scored 28 points in the first quarter on the way to a win. The Cougars scored on a passing touchdown, a touchdown catch by Broussard, a touchdown run by Thevenot and a Thevenot touchdown run in the quarter.
St. Martinville's only touchdown came on a 15-yard pass in the first quarter.
St. Thomas More went into the matchup giving up only 7.1 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, STM came away with a 42-0 victory.
The loss was the third in a row for the Tigers.
In a 4A District 5 game next week St. Martinville (3-6) takes on Westgate, and St. Thomas More (9-0) will go up against Breaux Bridge also in a 4A District 5 game.
