Vero Beach hasn't had much luck against Centennial recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Fighting Indians will square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Vero Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Vero Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Treasure Coast by a score of 7-4. The Fighting Indians haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Crysaria Joseph was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Kylie Williams was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Centennial made easy work of Central on Tuesday and carried off a 15-3 victory. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Tynlee Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addyson Barton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rayne Cohen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vero Beach's record is now 9-11. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 8-12.
Vero Beach's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Fighting Indians have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Vero Beach continue to outrun the ball?
Vero Beach came up short against Centennial in their previous matchup back in March, falling 6-3. Can the Fighting Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
