The Wickenburg Wranglers suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Camp Verde 55-23. While losing is never fun, Wickenburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Camp Verde is ranked 95th).
Wickenburg's loss came despite strong showings from Katie Chavarria and Tylee Buchert. Chavarria scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Buchert scored five points.
Rachel Roderick continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Camp Verde, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Roderick has scored all season. Lydia Bleak was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Wickenburg's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Camp Verde, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wickenburg and Parker will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Parker will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Camp Verde, they will head out on the road to square off against Chino Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chino Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
