Greenfield/Northwestern hasn't had much luck against Carrollton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Greenfield/Northwestern sitting on three straight victories and Carrollton on 23.
Greenfield/Northwestern had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Brown County on Monday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Hornets.
Jaylynn Pitchford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Kalynn Weller was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since April 3rd. Kinze Pitchford also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Carrollton got themselves on the board against Griggsville-Perry on Monday, but Griggsville-Perry never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Tornadoes with a sharp 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Hannah Uhles and Brookelyn Eilerman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Uhles struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Eilerman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Uhles went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles, while Eilerman went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Carrollton got a massive performance out of Daci Walls, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Walls continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Flowers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Carrollton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 22 consecutive matchups.
Carrollton pushed their record up to 23-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, their record is now 9-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Greenfield/Northwestern hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Carrollton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Greenfield/Northwestern suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Carrollton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
