Denver West hasn't had much luck against Kennedy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cowboys will square off against the Commanders at 4:15 p.m. Denver West has given up an average of 20.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Denver West is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 30th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 19-3 to Lincoln. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Denver West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Enoch Maestes, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Maestes also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Kennedy can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over DSST: Montview. The Commanders not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.
Vincent McHone made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Kennedy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-4 otherwise. McHone was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Adrian Montoya was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Dylan Nielsen was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
Kennedy's record is now 2-5. As for Denver West, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Denver West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Denver West might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Kennedy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
