West Florida and Crestview are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The West Florida Jaguars will take on the Crestview Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. West Florida is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
West Florida was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They skirted past Jay 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won six in a row.
Keelan Boyd made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024.
Boyd wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adam Geiger, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Crestview had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Milton 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since February 12th.
Kaleb Kompoltowicz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
West Florida's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Crestview, their record now sits at 3-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Florida has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Florida suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Crestview when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can West Florida avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
