The North Charleston Cougars suffered their biggest defeat since December 6, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 61-32 loss at the hands of Hanahan. North Charleston has not had much luck with Hanahan recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
North Charleston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taja Porcher, who scored 17 points. That was a full 53.1% of North Charleston's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Talasia King, who scored nine points.
Hanahan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camdyn Lawson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Lawson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashtyn Adams, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
North Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Hanahan, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.
North Charleston will be playing in front of their home fans against Beaufort at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Allowing an average of 52.8 points per game, Beaufort has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup. As for Hanahan, they will head out on the road to face off against Philip Simmons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Philip Simmons is ranked 129th, while Hanahan is ranked 139th).
