Lamar is 1-9 against the Vikings since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lamar Silver Foxes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Latta Vikings at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Lamar is ranked 218th, while the Vikings are ranked 205th).
Lamar's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 46-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Green Sea Floyds.
Meanwhile, Latta scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-32 victory over Hannah-Pamplico. The victory was just what Latta needed coming off of a 71-40 defeat in their prior matchup.
It was another big night for Shawniza Bethea, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Latta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anziya Jones, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Lamar has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Latta, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.
Lamar came up short against the Vikings when the teams last played back in January, falling 44-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bethea, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Now that Lamar knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
