The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will head out on the road to face off against the Greenville Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Aiken is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Even though Aiken scored an imposing 41 points on Friday, South Aiken still came out on top. South Aiken won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Aiken 42-41. The win was just what South Aiken needed coming off of a 56-28 loss in their prior game.
Jevon Edwards continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 442 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per carry. Edwards really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. South Aiken also got help from Kyson McLeod who showed off his sure hands for 85 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Greenville can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They breezed by Easley at home to the tune of 42-14. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Greenville found their leader in underclassman Rashad Robinson, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kylar Zimmerman, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
South Aiken's win pushed their record up to 3-7, while Greenville's bumped their own up to the opposite: 7-3.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. South Aiken has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 240.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Greenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.6 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
