It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Anacostia Indians had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They slipped by Bell 14-13. The win was just what Anacostia needed coming off of a 26-0 loss in their prior matchup.
Anacostia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was RI?Chard Wheeler, who gained 165 total yards. Keion Williams did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 109 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Anacostia's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jalen Gant.
Bell's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Antonio` Washington, who rushed for 181 yards while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 12 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Washington hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Demarco Valladares was another key contributor, throwing for 278 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Anacostia now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Bell, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Anacostia will face off against Coolidge at TBD on Friday. Coolidge will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Bell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
