Basketball Recap: St. Luke's Takes a Loss

After flying high against Groton School on Friday, St. Luke came back down to earth. The St. Luke's Storm received a blow on Saturday as they fell 70-55 to Middlesex.

Despite the defeat, St. Luke's saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tyler Newsom dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Newsom has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Leneil Jones, Jr. was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, St. Luke's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

St. Luke's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Middlesex, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

St. Luke's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-58 win against Buckingham Browne & Nichols on the 21st. As for Middlesex, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Westminster School at 3:30 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
