San Lorenzo Valley extended the longest winning streak in Santa Cruz Coast this week by beating Santa Cruz, 37-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Cougars.
St. Francis's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matt Clifton threw for 177 and one touchdown and Nathaniel Ceballos had 93 yards receiving. On the ground Jonathan Carmona chipped in 47 yards. RJ Zuniga helped St. Francis' passing attack out by catching four balls for 46 yards.
The Sharks' Nick Ciandro and Ceballos have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Ciandro has thrown for 746 yards this season, while Ceballos, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 23 catches for 524 yards. Alex Morris from the Cardinals leads the league in rushing with 399 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when St. Francis takes on San Lorenzo Valley. Adam Hazel's team's offense has scored 85 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Doug Morris' team has allowed only 71 on the year.
A big matchup in Santa Cruz Coast this week will be when Aptos takes on Scotts Valley. The Mariners are in third place, while the Falcons are in fifth place.
Scotts Valley made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,718 from 9,024. The advance stemmed from a 33-26 victory over Louie Walters' team last week.
