The Baker County Wildcats were the 54-26 winner over the Santa Fe Raiders when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Baker County fell just short of Santa Fe by a score of 50-48.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalia Strachan, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamise Haygood, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 steals.
Santa Fe found their leader in underclassman Haleigh Richburgh, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Chohan, who scored 11 points.
Baker County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Santa Fe, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker County will take on Union County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Fe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
