Dixie County and Branford are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bears will face off against the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Dixie County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Union County 6-5. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Fighting Tigers on their field since February 19, 2021.
Dixie County got a big performance out of Skyliar Love, who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadlee Hines, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Dixie County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Branford owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They came out on top against Fort White by a score of 5-0. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Harleigh Price was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mallory Blue was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hunter Revis, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Branford's win bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Dixie County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.
Dixie County suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Branford in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
