The Fountain Central Mustangs were the 69-67 winner over the South Vermillion Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Fountain Central took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Vermillion on Friday. Fountain Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Fountain Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaac Gayler. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Will Harmon was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
South Vermillion got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayson Shoults out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aden Wallace, who scored eight points along with six assists and four steals.
Fountain Central has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for South Vermillion, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fountain Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Seeger at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Seeger is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for South Vermillion, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against West Vigo at 7:30 p.m.
