The J.L. Mann Patriots will face off against the T.L. Hanna Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. J.L. Mann is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between J.L. Mann and Hillcrest, and J.L. Mann kept the tradition alive. The Patriots never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Friday. Considering the Patriots have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Josh Carlson, who gave up just a hit to keep Hillcrest off the board. Carlson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because J.L. Mann is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise.
At the plate, J.L. Mann let McLeod Darnell and Ashley Shiffer run wild. Darnell went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Shiffer went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs Shiffer has posted since back in February. Griffin King was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: J.L. Mann lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for T.L. Hanna, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Woodmont on Friday by a score of 6-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Reece Oakley looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Phifer Glenn and Will Craddock did most of the damage at the plate: Glenn went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Craddock went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
T.L. Hanna pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for J.L. Mann, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. J.L. Mann hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like T.L. Hanna struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
