1A Conference 42 recap November 5, 2013
Mathews took down Charles City 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
James Williams was a key player and the best on defense this week as Middlesex beat King & Queen Central. The 6-foot-0 junior recorded 2 fumbles and grabbed 1 sack.
Neil Washington was the best wideout in 1A Conference 42 this week as West Point lost to King William. Washington tallied 3 receptions for 61 yards. Adrian "A.J." Jones helped West Point's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 51 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Pointers' Robert "Mikey" Anerton and Chase Stewart have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Anerton has thrown for 1,846 yards this season, while Stewart has 26 catches for 540 yards. The Chargers' Marques Holmes leads the league in rushing yards with 1,050.
Entering into this week's contest against the Panthers, Anerton is short just 154 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Charles City takes on LC Briggs' team. As it stands, Alan Jones Sr.'s team is in fourth, while the Pointers are in first.
The Blue Devils made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 13,412 from 13,891. The improvement was largely due to a 49-14 victory over the Panthers last week.
