Two dominant guards in Isaiah Gibson and Colin Lamb are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes will be taking part in a tournament against the Laney Buccaneers at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Last Saturday, Cape Fear Academy ended up a good deal behind Northwood Temple Academy and lost 70-56.
Despite the defeat, Cape Fear Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kareem Anderson went 8 for 18 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gibson, who posted seven points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, Laney entered their tilt with North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 59-46 win over the Chiefs. The Buccaneers pushed the score to 54-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chiefs cut but never quite recovered from.
Laney's win came from a few key players Cape Fear Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Mosley, who had ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamb, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points.
Laney was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Myrtle Beach only racked up nine assists.
Cape Fear Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Laney, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cape Fear Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 boards per game.
