Baseball Game Preview: Washington Generals vs. St. Joseph Fighting Irish

Washington is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the St. Joseph Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Washington made easy work of Humphreys Academy and carried off a 14-4 victory. The Generals haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Tri Avis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Washington let Reid Henderson and Charley Dunn run wild. Henderson got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Dunn scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those four RBI gave Henderson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Doty Scott, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph took care of business in their home opener (barely) on March 7th. They skirted past Riverside 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Irish have posted against the Bulldogs since April 14, 2018.

Washington's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for St. Joseph, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Everything went Washington's way against St. Joseph when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Washington made off with a 12-2 win. Will Washington repeat their success, or does St. Joseph has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
