Baseball Recap: Desert Hills Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Desert Hills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Hurricane Tigers on Friday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won 14 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jaxton Tolman tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Isaac Swanson was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Briggs Fillmore also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Desert Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hurricane only posted an OBP of .348.

Desert Hills is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Hurricane, they dropped their record down to 9-13 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Hills will venture away from home to challenge Cedar at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hurricane, they will head out to take on Moapa Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.35 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
