The St. Brendan Sabres were the 61-60 winner over the Monsignor Pace Spartans when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. St. Brendan took a 64-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monsignor Pace on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, St. Brendan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Monsignor Pace is ranked 51st).
Despite the loss, St. Brendan still got an impressive performance from Jaden Castro, who scored 22 points. Castro scored a full 41.5% of St. Brendan's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gianna Vindigni, who scored 12 points.
St. Brendan has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Monsignor Pace, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Brendan will take on Divine Savior Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Divine Savior Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Tuesday. As for Monsignor Pace, they will head out on the road to face off against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is on a three-game streak of home wins, Monsignor Pace a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
