There's a new team sitting atop the MaxPreps Top 25 softball rankings for the first time since the spring of 2021.
Roncalli (Indianapolis) started and finished the 2022 season as the No. 1 team, but after an impressive run of 51 consecutive wins, the Royals fell 7-5 to
Avon (Ind.) in THS Bash championship.
Lake Creek (Montgomery, Texas) rises to the No. 1 spot after the Royals loss. The Lions have been flawless dating back to last year. They entered 2023 following a remarkable 41-0 season winning the 5A state champions, and now boast a 70-game winning streak. Florida signee
Ava Brown has been a force on the mound, maintaining a spotless 67-0 career record with a 0.58 ERA.
Meanwhile,
Rockridge's (Taylor Ridge, Ill.) impressive 73-game win streak came to an end this past week, clearing the way for Lake Creek to claim the nation's longest current winning streak.
Entering the MaxPreps Top 25 this week is
North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.), which has made a strong start to the season. Maryland signee
Julia Shearer has been dominant on the mound, allowing one earned run in 35 innings wjile striking out 81.
Also debuting this week is
Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.), which has racked up 20 consecutive wins after an early season 2-0 loss to No. 8
St. Amant (La.).
