The Camden County Bruins will be defending their home-court for the first time this season they go up against the Croatan Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Camden County is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Cape Hatteras. Camden County simply couldn't be stopped two weeks ago as they easily beat Cape Hatteras 82-32. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bruins have posted since December 13, 2023.
Camden County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Antwan Hughes out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xzavior Wiggins, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Camden County was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Hatteras only posted five.
Meanwhile, Croatan put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by East Carteret to the tune of 85-33. Fans of the Cougars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Croatan can attribute much of their success to Trey Jones, who went 11 for 17 en route to 30 points plus seven assists and five steals, and Kannon McBride, who went 10 for 18 en route to 29 points plus seven rebounds and five steals. Jones' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Hilliard, who earned four points plus six assists and five steals.
